General Certificate of Merit Information

The Certificate of Merit committee is in charge of two major outreach activities. In the fall, letters are written and sent to young women who attended Youth Programs at Michigan Tech over the summer such as the Women in Engineering or Explorations in Engineering programs. These letters introduce the participants to SWE and encourage them to pursue a career in an engineering, math, or science field.

The other program implemented by the Certificate of Merit committee is the Certificate of Merit program. This program sends letters to high school counselors across Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota asking them to nominate a senior and junior female from their school who excels in math and science. The committee then sends out certificates to the nominees in addition to information on SWE and careers in engineering, math, and science. On average over 500 certificates are given out every year! If your school does not currently participate in the Certificate of Merit program and would like to get involved, please email Emma Schwaiger. We are always looking to expand the program!
