Benefits of SWE

The Society of Women Engineers has a lot to offer its members both as a national organization and as the local MTU student section. Some of these benefits include...

Being a Leader

MTU SWE has almost 20 leadership positions ranging from President to leading a committee. These not only provide a chance to learn how to lead before entering the workforce but also make for great resume and interview topics.

Experience of Other Members

Attending SWE meetings and events is a great way to learn about other academic majors, meet older members in your major, and to find mentors, tutors, and most importantly, friends!

National Organization

A national SWE membership has many perks including going to regional and national conferences, an online membership database, SWE Magazine, and a well-known name in the engineering community. Upon graduation, a free professional membership upgrade is available through SWE Wisconsin.

Effect on Your Career

SWE offers many opportunities for networking including Evening With Industry, the Presidential Council of Alumnae, SWE Conferences, posting your resume on this website, and SWE alumni. Many companies contact MTU SWE looking to hire our members!

Fundraising

With events such as EWI, and SWEish-Ka-Bob, SWEenie Weenie, and Engineering T-Shirt sales, SWE puts the "fun" in FUNdraising! These events allow SWE members to go to conferences for free in addition to giving donations to worthy community and campus organizations.

Information

You can add to your engineering knowledge by listening to speakers at general meetings, attending retreats and conferences, reading SWE magazine, and going to the national SWE website, a great resource on many issues for women in engineering.

Time for Yourself

Don't you deserve a fun night during the week? General meetings are a great time for a girls' night with your SWE friends and free food! While some meetings are technical-based, many are planned simply for good times including lotion-making, potlucks, swing dancing, and socials with other organizations such as SHPE and NSBE.

Service

Through activities such as Certificate of Merit, Big Mac, Girl Scout badge workshops, Get WiSE Day, and other events in the community you can influence younger generations to pursue engineering and science-related careers.
