Committee Head Meeting 6:00pm - 7:00pm, MUB Alumni A
General Meeting: Warm Up America 6:00pm - 7:00pm, M&M U113
Tonight we were joined by our advisors Chris and Mary!!! We knitted 7" x 9" squares to be put together to make an afghan for an organization called Warm-up America. This is a great organization who collects afghans to give to those in need. Thank you so much to everyone who helped out! If you'd like more information, please visit the website at warmupamerica.com. If you'd like to make a square, please do and drop them off in the SWE office at any time. :)
The SWE Regional Conference will be held in Peoria, IL this weekend! The 16 representatives from our section will be meeting at 6:30 AM Friday morning (Jan 25) at the Gates Tennis Center and Lot 24. I hope y'all have a fantastic time! Drive safely :)
Winter Carnival Queen Coronation is taking place on Saturday, February 2nd at 7:30pm in the Rozsa. Please come and support Megan in her efforts!!! She's really excited to be a part, and is so happy to be representing all of the awesome people of SWE! Tickets are on sale for $10, and SWE has volunteered to pay for $5 of the ticket price! Please tell Brooke if you are interested in coming! I'd appreciate all of your support!
Also, on that note, student voting is taking place this Wednesday, January 30th and Thursday, January 31st in Fisher and the MUB from 10am-2pm. You will need your M# to vote. Please vote for Megan!
It's SWE-ishkabob time!!! We will be preparing the SWE-ishkabobs on Sunday, February 3rd in the DHH kitchen. We be selling at the all nighter on Wednesday, February 6th. Please sign up with Sara and Sara! Reminder: to be an active member you must do 2 SWEish-kabob hours, and CHEB members need to do 5! Thanks for all of your help! We really appreciate all of the time y'all put in to this. :)
Winter Carnival Event dates are fast approaching! Talk to Pam if you need a reminder about what you signed up for and when we will be playing! Also, if you haven't given Pam your M#, please do so ASAP. GOOD LUCK SWESTERS!!!

The Student Involvement Fair is tomorrow (Thursday) from 8-10pm in the Wads Cafeteria. Please stop by and make slime! It should be a fun time!
We are in need of some committee heads! If you are at all interested in filling our 2 needed EWI spots, Newsletter or Publicity spots, please talk to Brooke.
On Wednesday February 20th, we will be having some company representatives come and form a panel. They will be answering questions about interviews. If you have any questions you'd like to ask the panel, please send them to Brooke. Thanks!

Winter Carnival Queen's Coronation 7:30pm - 9:30pm, Rosza Center
Megan didn't bring home the crown for carnival queen, but she did an amazing job! A big thank you to Megan for representing SWE and thank you to all who attended the coronation to support her!
SWE-ish-kabob Preparation 8:00am - 2:00pm, DHH Kitchennette
We will again be assembling the SWE-ish-kabobs in the DHH Kitchenette. Just a reminder that general members are required to do 2 hours of SWE-ish-kabob selling/prep/clean-up, and committee heads are required to do 5 hours. A sign-up sheet will be passed around at the 2nd week general meeting, or email one of the fundraising committee heads to sign up.
General Meeting: Postponed
The general meeting has been postponed due to Winter Carnival. We will be picking up this meeting later in the semester when we hold our third-annual Presidential Council of Alumnae panel discussion.

Thanks to everyone who bought or helped to prep and sell SWEish-Kabobs! We were sold out by 1:45am. Thank you to Ferrel Gas and Baker Hughes for helping us with the propane and food costs!

I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far.
Last night SWE members gathered together to enjoy some wonderful food and enjoy a panel discussion with a few companies who attended the career fair on Tuesday to learn what they are looking for in students from Michigan Tech. Among the companies were: Baker-Hughes, Caterpiller, Ford Motor co., and Kohler.
Announcements include:
-- GET WISE (THIS UPCOMING WED. Feb. 27th)
- Women In Science and Engineering, this is a program for 6th - 8th graders to learn about engineering.
- Small group leaders are needed for two hour shifts from 10AM-2PM
- (Lunch will be provided if you work from 11AM-NOON)
- More information will be emailed out later....
-- GIRL SCOUT EVENT (SUNDAY, March 2nd)
- Event for 11-13 year old girls from the community to earn badges dealing with engineering.
- 1:30PM - 4:30PM
- SWE is in need of as many volunteers as possible and it's a great way to get involved in our local community.
-- WARM UP AMERICA
- Squares are still needed so that we can finish the blanket. Please drop finished squares off to the SWE office and try to make sure they are close to a 7x9" square. Thanks!
-- Finally, keep in mind that we will still need volunteers for the Big Mac program, and delivering easter baskets to a nursing home in Hancock. All of these events are a great way to earn your activity point to be an active member within SWE. :-)

Get WiSE Day 8:00am - 2:00pm, SDC
Every year SWE helps out with Get WiSE day, an event sponsored by Michigan Tech which introduces over 300 middle-school girls to engineering and science. Contact Katrina for more information or to sign up for timeslots to help out.

Girl Scout Event 2:00pm - 4:30pm, 3rd floor Fisher Hall
Thank you to all who attended the girl scout event! The girls and troop leaders really enjoyed the day and were impressed with the event. Around 30 girls participated in the event.
General Meeting: Easter Baskets 6:00pm - 7:00pm, Chem Sci 101
Tonight we made Easter Baskets that will be delivered to Cypress Manor in
Hancock the Saturday before Easter! Be on the lookout for an email from
Katrina and Rochelle about this great opportunity to reach out to the
community!
At the meeting tonight, we had information about companies that are
looking to recruit women engineers. Most of the companies that we have
information about do not attend MTU's career fair. The information is in
the SWE office, if you'd like to stop in and take a look.
Katie Dean, Vice President of the SAE Baja Enterprise, came and spoke to
us tonight about the opportunity to join the Enterprise.
-The team designs, builds, and races dune buggies all around the country.
-There is a lot of opportunities for engineers, marketing, accounting, and
business majors!

We are going to be ordering some SUPER CUTE SWE sweatshirts. They are
black zip-up hoodies that will say "SWE Ladies" on the back (just "SWE"
for the gentlemen) and will have the SWE cog on the front left. They will
cost only $20 for general members. Please email Brooke at bnsmith@mtu.edu
if you'd like one!
We are still selling our "Top Ten" and "I Heart Boobs" shirts! Only $10
and $12 respectively! The proceeds from the "I Heart Boobs" shirts are
going to a local breast cancer research facility.

This Saturday at 12pm, noon, we will be delivering the Easter baskets we
made at the last meeting to Cypress Manor in Hancock. This is a wonderful
opportunity to have some fun and put a smile on someone's face!

General Meeting: Pilates 6:00pm - 7:00pm, MUB Alumni A & B
Tonight we did Pilates with Deb Faust, the fabulous aerobics instructor! It was a really great way to relax and unwind from all the stress at school. If you had fun tonight, look into the PE and community classes that she teaches at the SDC.
We have important business news:
-We will be doing another Big Mac event THIS Friday, March 28th at Hancock Elementary. The 3 sessions will be 10:30-11:30, 12:30-1:30, and 1:50-2:50pm. Email Katrina or Rochelle if you can help out!
-You are all invited to the Spring Banquet to be held Saturday, April 19th from noon to 3pm at the Waterfront Restaurant at the Ramada Inn. It's always a great event with awards, senior goodbyes, good food, and friends. The event is free for Active Members, $3 for non-active members, and $5 for guests/dates. Email Beth if you are unsure of your active status. Invitations to the banquet can be picked up in the SWE office, or at the next general meeting. Please RSVP to me (Megan) by Wednesday, April 9th.
-SWE awards 2 scholarships for Outstanding SWE Members of $250 to the Campus Book Store. They are awarded to 1 Freshmen/Sophomore and 1 Junior/Senior. If you are interested in applying, you may pick up an application from the SWE office and are due Friday, April 11th.
-The nominating committee has announced their nominees for next year's Executive Board. They are:

For the second Big Mac event of the year SWE will be going to Hancock to teach students about engineering and efficiency while having fun playing with felt Big Mac parts!

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who was elected to hold a position next year. PLEASE NOTE that if you were elected to head up a position, there is a mandatory retreat on APRIL 19th from 9:30-11AM. More information will be emailed as the time gets closer.
Tonight SWE enjoyed a presenter from the local women's shelter from the Keweenaw area to thank us for our donation from last semester and to talk with us about domestic violence. If you would like any information regarding the shelter, the SWE office will have extra informational booklets if you would like to pick one up.
A group photo was taken featuring the lovely I HEART BOOBS shirts with most of the members from this past year. There are still shirts available for only $12 if you would like to purchase one.
Volunteers are needed for the following events on APRIL 19TH:(this is a great way to get another activity point if you still need one for this semester)
-SWE's hot dog (SWEenie Weenie) fundraiser where we will also be selling t-shirts. There are shifts open from noon-5PM. Please email Sara G. or Sara N. if you can help.
-Engineering Olympics is coming back to the SDC teaching kids about engineering and they are asking for a few volunteers to help kids with activities such as building a mouse trap car ect. Shifts are open from 8AM-Noon. Please email Brooke if you can help out.
Presidential Council of Alumnae Panel 6:00pm - 8:00pm, Forestry Building Atrium
Tonight was the annual panel of Presidential Council of Alumnae. It was a great opportunity to ask questions to a group of successful female MTU graduates. The 9 women of the panel were very diverse in that they graduated from Tech in different years and with different degrees. The women talked about when to go to graduate school, work/life balance, important lessons learned, the importance of volunteering, benefits of professional societies (SWE was mentioned :), looking for jobs, finding jobs with your significant other, and more!

-If you ordered a SWE sweatshirt please pay Nate if you have not already done so. The sweatshirts will be passed out during the SWE Banquet.

Tonight was the last meeting of the year! We had a GREAT time bowling and playing billiards in the MUB tonight while saying goodbye to our graduating seniors.
